SDYC Yachting Cup: Rick Goebel (J/105, Overall) and Manouch Moshayedi (PAC 52) prevail
QUOTE-UNQUOTE: "Though all the sailors out there can confirm that conditions were insane for San Diego, that didn't stop Rick Goebel and his crew on SANITY from winning the J/105 class and the overall regatta [on the strength of having having won every race this weekend]. Goebel was also named the Yachting Cup Overall winner in 2014. 'We really had a great regatta, especially in the heavy air. We go up to the Big Boat Series every three or four years so we are really set up for heavy air and we have a great heavy air crew. Only two of the crew members have changed since we last won Yachting Cup, so we are basically the same group. This year was really tough, but to win it this year was fantastic.'" –Sunday evening's SDYC news release.
With the Race Committee bringing all the classes into the Bay due to the unusually rough conditions in the ocean today, the PAC 52 Class only raced one long race. It was a match-race between RIO 52 and FOX as the other two entries, BADPAK and INVISIBLE HAND, pulled out after structural problems with their brand new yachts were discovered following yesterday's three windy, rough races in the Pacific. RIO 52 owner Manouch Moshayedi (Newport Beach but representing StFYC) continued his winning ways today finish the series with a solid scoreline of 2-1-1-1-3-2-1, six points ahead of 2nd place FOX owned by Victor Wild (San Diego, SDYC).
