SVEA: Back to the future
QUOTE-UNQUOTE: "By the time Tom Siebel joined the St. Francis Yacht Club in 2009, he had sailed his way through a Laser, kiteboard, Hobie Cat, Nacra 17, Wildcat, SIG45, J/125, Swan 90 and MOD70. What was next for this passionate sailor? The answer came to him when the 1937-vintage line drawings of a J-Boat crossed his desk." –Meredith Laitos, StFYC Comms Director, writing in this week's STFYC member email blast "The Current."
For decades StFYC has hosted a "Wednesday Yachting Luncheon" open to the public with a speaker of note presenting on a topic relevant to the sea and sport we all love. Many other clubs have a similar weekly or monthly speaker series, though not always open to the public, and not at a venue with such an incredibly iconic vista. The casual, $21 Rotary-style buffet is available at 1145; some of us working-folk dash in at 1220 and grab a plate and seat before emcee Ron Young introduces the day's speaker promptly at 1230. The talk with Q&A concludes by 1330 latest.
Tomorrow's multi-media prezo promises to be special – Tom Siebel on his stunning new J-Class yacht SVEA. Many of us have been looking forward to this weeks. Whether or not you can make it, check out Meredith's excellent article on the StFYC website, "When Siebel met SVEA - Tom Siebel’s journey to acquiring the biggest J-Class yacht ever built."
Reservations not required; if you are not a StFYC member just check in at the front desk.
