Rolex TP52 Worlds: Congrats to Corinthian Harm Müller-Spreer and his PLATOON team
ONE OF OUR GOALS here at SI is to celebrate yacht racing, and in particular Corinthian racing sailors. Accordingly I was delighted to report yesterday morning immediately after they crossed the final-race finish line (way ahead of the cut-and-paste websites who post a press release hours later) that the new TP52 World champions had just been crowned – Harm Müller-Spreer (GER), the Corinthian owner/driver of PLATOON, and his suburb team of pros including tactician John "Ice Man" Kostecki (USA, SF, our longtime friend from, yikes, Sunfish days, and a former AC colleague on multiple AC teams) and Dirk DeRidder (NED, another good friend and former AC teammate) who trims the main.
Rolex and the well-managed TP52 class have just released a highlights video from yesterday's final race in which PLATOON clinched the prestigious title. At 4m20s, the hi-res vid is a bit long for my taste, but I think you will enjoy it. Indeed, TFE recommends. Included are some nice remarks by a disappointed but gracious Terry Hutchinson (USA, Annapolis) of runner-up and former five-time World Champs QUANTUM RACING. Kudos to Lars Boeking (GER/ESP, coincidentally another longtime friend and former neighbor in VLC) and his TP52 marketing team for their good work on behalf of the Class and our sport. Cheers!
