Red sky at night, sailors delight!
WITH APPROX 45 DAYS TO GO to the start of the 2017 Transpac, it's a little far out to be looking for auspicious signs. Here's hoping that this nice photo taken last evening in Long Beach, CA, is a good indication even at this early date. Gladstone's is our favorite restaurant in Long Beach, and is popular with many of our sailing friends. John Sangmeister, our longtime friend, AC veteran (USA, Team Dennis Conner '87 and '92), and skipper of the sled OEX, is the "owner/driver" of this popular steak and seafood restaurant.
Again this year "Sango" and Gladstone's are helping organize the Transpac Race send-off party on July 1st – just a little over a month away – and related events in Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor where many of the Transpac racers will be berthed prior to the start. As of this morning 59 yachts are entered. Entry deadline is in eight days – May 30th. First (slower) yachts start on July 3rd off LA's Pt. Fermin.
