AC35: Day 2, Race 7 (of Round Robin 1)
IT CAN"T HURT THE TV VIEWERSHIP in the USA that the Monaco F1 Grand Prix was on just before today's AC racing started in BDA. Hopefully some of those fans of fast cars have stay tuned for the fast cats. And congrats to Seb Vettel whose win today ended at 14-year drought at Monaco for Scudderia Ferrari. Great shots, too, of the recently re-done Yacht Club de Monaco, which doubles during GP weekend as the VIP "Paddock Club." Many happy memories of times spent in the Principality, sometimes called "a sunny place for shady people" for F1 and yachting events. YCM is the sister club of Switzerland's Gstaad YC of which your Ed. is proudly one of the 10 founding members. Many of the F1 drivers live in Monaco, and HH Prince Albert is also President of YCM as well as a keen America's Cup fan. I've had the pleasure of hosting him at several previous Cups, as well as at the 1984 Olympic Yachting Regatta in Long Beach when he was just, well, a yute. Now onto the AC....
The opening of today's NBCSN coverage said Bermuda is "home to the best sailing on the planet." Not so sure about that, but you've gotta give BDA some good ink when they have $70 million for the privilege of hosting the event.
Again today we will post a report of the races within minutes of each finish. This is our first report, and we will update it in 20 minutes or so after the first match, SWE-FRA, which as most expect will be a walkover for Nathan Outteridge and his Artemis Racing (SWE).
