Photo of the Day: Aboard Tom Siebel's J-Class yacht SVEA in Bermuda
HAMILTON, BER – Tom Siebel's brand new J-Class yacht sailed her first race Wednesday in the J-Class event being held as part of the America's Cup Superyacht Regatta here in Bermuda. I've had the good fortune to be invited along as crew on SVEA by Tom, my Bay Area friend and fellow St Francis Yacht Club member. I took this photo during our team meeting before Wednesday's race in which we finished a respectable 3rd out of the six yachts competing. We have one more race today (Thursday).
As far as anyone knows, so far this is the largest assemblage of J-Class yachts ever. In August in Newport, RI we expect one or even two more J's for the class' World Championship. Many of SI's readers, especially AC fans, will know that J's were raced in the 1930, 1934 and 1937 America's Cups off Newport, RI.
