ESS San Diego: Ainslie trails Alinghi after Day 1; for fans of the GC32 catamarans, a good video on
SAN DIEGO – Alinghi was the top team on Thursday, Day 1 (of four) of the 2017 Extreme Sailing regatta in San Diego. Ben Ainslie's Land Rover BAR Academy were second after stuffing the last race of the day in light air. SAP Extreme Sailing (DEN), the 2017 series leader (San Diego is "Act 7" of 8 regattas this year) finished the day in 3rd. The all-American team led by Morgan Larson finished 5th. Crewing for Morgan are Andrew Campbell, Matt Cassidy, Mike Kuschner, Cooper Dressler. Racing continues in San Diego Bay off Harbor Island through Sunday. Full story.
In September Genny Tulloch interviewed Chris Steele (NZL) on how the crew trim the T-foils (on the bottom of the rudders), the dagger foils and the rotating wing-mast. It's a good video, worth the three and a half minutes to watch it for fans of foiling catamarans, particularly the GC32s used in the Extreme Sailing Series.
