VOR: According to a post on the team's Facebook page, MAPFRE has successfully completed repairs

SAN FRANCISCO – According to the MAPFRE Facebook page, a few minutes ago the team resumed racing on Leg 7 from Auckland to Itajaí after repairing the sail track on their mast and their torn mainsail. Video above is an interview with skipper Xabi Fernández from some eight hours ago after they had suspended racing on Thursday morning to make the repairs when they were just a few miles west of Cape Horn.

Their Facebook post also said, "Awesome job by both the shore crew and [race] crew. We can only say two things: Chapeu and vamos MAPFRE. Thanks to all for your messages of support. We are all down there."

The 15 photos in the gallery below were taken Thursday as repairs were being effected in a sheltered bay near Cape Horn, and are courtesy of MAPFRE's OBR ("on-board reporter") Ugo Fonollá and the Volvo Ocean Race.

Update: The VOR website now confirms that MAPFRE has re-joined the race after "a 13-hour pit-stop." Full story.
