VOR: The first three will finish at Newport shortly, and it's too close to call the winner

NEWPORT, RI (#1001) – It's 0230 Tuesday morning in Newport, and family, friends and fans of the Volvo Ocean Race are gathering at Fort Adams where Sail Newport is hosting the Volvo stopover for the next couple of weeks. If Brad Read & Co. do half as good a job as they did in the last edition, the teams and all others concerned are in for a real treat.

The finish, in the dark of tonight, is going to be very close indeed. Dongfeng is leading, but just by .1nm over Brunel. MAPFRE has come on strong but is a couple miles behind the lead pair. In the light conditions any of the three could win.

Vestas 11th Hour Racing is listed on the tracker as fifth, but will have a battle with Turn the Tide On Plastic, currently listed on the tracker as 4th. TTOP went around the west side of the exclusion zone (the only boat to do so) and it will be interesting to see if that pays.

Watch the finish live on the VOR Race Tracker here and on the VOR Facebook page here.
