VOR: Can Team Brunel, now ahead of MAPFRE and well ahead of Dongfeng, seal the deal?
SAN FRANCISCO (#1047) – With only 70 miles to go, Bouwe Bekking's Team Brunel has, incredibly, had yet another late-leg charge to pull ahead of MAPFRE – as we post this, by only 1.1nm. Dongfeng is now lagging some 50nm behind after choosing the inshore route to ill effect. It's looking like a fight to the finish is in store between Brunel and MAPFRE – between Rio 2016 Olympic and ETNZ teammates Pete Burling (NZL, Brunel) and Blair Tuke (NZL, MAPFRE). It could get squirrelly on the final approach to The Hague, so stay tuned to the race tracker and whatever VOR media does to go live for what does, indeed, promise to be an epic finish to this 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race.
