Question of the Week: To drop, or not to drop (a race or two in scoring a series)

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (#1089) – The Class Manager for the 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17 Olympic classes, Ben Remocker (CAN), has penned a must-read editorial on the pros and cons of having discard (aka drop or throw-out) races. Your Ed. has long since argued that throw-out races should be, er, dropped for whole lot of reasons – ease of scoring, encourages better boat prep, rules compliance and less risky sailing in general, and much easier presenting the sport to non-sailors and sailors alike.
