SAILGP: Tom Slingsby's Team AUS dominate the Cowes event shortened to one day, winning all three
COWES, ISLE OF WIGHT, GBR (#1187) — As expected the fourth 2019 SailGP regatta was blown Saturday by winds in the high 30s, but the show went on today with all three shortened fleet races won handily by Tom Slingsby and his Team Australia. They go into next month's fifth and final regatta in Marseille, FRA with a big lead over the other five teams. Regardless, under SailGP scoring it will still come down to a final match race at the end of Marseille between the top two teams for the $1 million winner-take-all 2019 overall prize.
Team GBR, the local favorites led by Dylan Fletcher (GBR) broke down in Race 1 and had to call it a day to the disappointment of the nice shoreside crowd.

Team USA led by skipper Rome Kirby (USA) capsized during the bear away after Mark 1 of Sunday's Race 1, but managed to get righted and continue in Races 2 and 3, albeit obviously hampered by undisclosed technical problems. Likewise Nathan Outteridge's Team Japan, so far in 2019 the only team in the same league with the Aussies, broke their starboard pedestal but managed to finish all three races limping around the breezy, bumpy Solent track.
