SAN FRANCISCO (#1202) — New York YC Immediate Past Commodore Phil Lotz (USA) will be my guest today (Tuesday) live via Skype from Newport, RI. Comm. Lotz will update us on the status and success of the rapidly-growing Melges IC37 Class being used for the first time in the Club's biennial Invitational Cup taking place in Newport this week. It is the sixth edition of that celebrated corinthian event, sponsored by Rolex, with crews representing 20 of the most prestigious clubs in the world, including defending champion Southern YC of New Orleans. Another former champ tipped by many to be in the hunt again this year is Toronto's Royal Canadian YC.

Commodore Lotz is also one of the principals in the Club's AC36 challenger, American Magic, and no doubt we will delve into all that. The team splashed their new AC75 in Narragansett Bay on Sunday, and it has been seen since tow-testing in those waters in preparation for its first sail that, one hears, will take place this week.
