LRPP Statement with team-issued photos: "It’s a new boat and something like this can happen&quo
SAN FRANCISCO (#1250) — Above is the headline of the brief statement issued Monday evening by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli following their dismasting while training earlier Monday. The sub-head: "If you don’t push hard you will never know your limits." The full text of their statement:
"This afternoon, during a sea trial, the AC75 LUNA ROSSA dismasted at just a few miles off the coast from Marina di Capitana. No team member was injured in the incident. Mast, sails and rig were immediately recovered by the sailors onboard, with the help of the shore crew on the support ribs.The whole team is already at work to return on the water as soon as possible and resume the training sessions in preparation for the America’s Cup World Series that will take place from April 23 to 26."

Further to our earlier report, and the team's statement, one hears from multiple sources that the wind was only in the mid- to upper-teens ("nothing heinous" as one senior-serious observer with first-hand knowledge said), and that the mast tube and sails were not damaged — likely indicating it was a rigging failure, or failure of the hull where the rigging attaches.
